Privacy Notice
This notice explains how Dage Electronics Pty Ltd collects and uses information during invitation-only TestFlight testing of Chabu. Public paid accounts are not offered in this build.
Who this applies to
Chabu is currently a private test. Only invited testers and waitlist signups are in scope. If you were not invited, do not create an account.
Information we collect
- Waitlist email, signup source, and limited campaign tags you arrive with.
- Account identity, profile choices, language level, preferences, onboarding answers, and usage records used to enforce daily practice limits.
- Conversation text, reading activity, saved vocabulary, pronunciation results, and learner-memory summaries used to continue your practice.
- Audio you choose to submit for speech recognition, conversation, pronunciation feedback, or speech generation.
- Photos you choose to submit so Reading can extract Chinese text.
- Approximate city, region, and country from the device when you allow location, so the tutor can talk about local weather and time of day. We do not store GPS coordinates.
- Crash and diagnostic events (Sentry) and product-usage events (PostHog) when those services are enabled in a build. We do not sell personal information.
How we use information
Waitlist data is used to manage early access. Account and learning data is used to provide practice, personalise difficulty, remember useful context, enforce usage limits, prevent abuse, and keep the test reliable. You can decline cloud AI features and still use on-device dictionary, CEDICT lookups, and local history.
Storage and processors
These processors handle data for the test, under their own terms, and may operate in other countries:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and related storage.
- OpenRouter and its routed model providers — chat and some text features.
- Alibaba Cloud / DashScope — speech recognition, some speech synthesis, and some vision/text features.
- Microsoft Azure — pronunciation assessment and some speech synthesis when that path is used.
- Sentry — crash and error reports.
- PostHog — product analytics.
Audio, photos, and AI
Audio, photos, and conversation text are sent only when you use a cloud feature and have allowed AI data sharing in the app. Chabu uses them to produce a transcript, reply, playback, extracted text, or pronunciation score. We do not intentionally keep raw recordings after processing unless a feature clearly says otherwise. Infrastructure and processors may retain limited data for security, abuse prevention, or their service policies. AI outputs can be wrong and are not professional advice.
Retention and deletion
Waitlist records are kept until you ask us to remove them, or until launch communications for that list end. Account, conversation, vocabulary, pronunciation, usage, and related learning records are kept while the account is active. Deleting your account from the app removes the auth user and those learning records. Crash and analytics events already sent to Sentry or PostHog follow those services’ retention. You may ask to access, correct, export, or delete your data.
Age and safety
The service is not directed to children under 13. Anyone under the age required to consent to data processing where they live should use the service only with a parent or guardian’s permission. Private testing includes age-sensitive safeguards, but no automated safeguard is perfect.
Your choices and contact
You can decline the waitlist, decline location, decline AI data sharing, stop using voice or camera features, or delete your account in the app. For privacy questions or data requests, chabuapp@gmail.com. We may update this notice as the test and its processors change.
